Good features, some setup quirks

I bought the MailEngine Pro version a few weeks ago, mostly for the GSuite SMTP Connector. It works pretty well for sending out my newsletters, and the Email Open Tracker is a nice touch. Setup was a bit more involved than I expected, especially getting the Gmail API working. The documentation was okay, but I had to dig a bit in their forums for some specific steps. Overall, it's a solid tool once it's up and running, but they could streamline the initial configuration process. Value for money seems good so far.

I've used both Mailster and MailEngine. MailEngine's spam filter word detector really helps keep stuff out of spam, better than Mailster for sure in my experience. Plus the GSuite/Gmail API connection is a lifesaver.

MailEngine is self-hosted so you have more control, kinda like Sendy. But MailEngine has that content spinner which is pretty unique for avoiding spam filters. I think it's better for deliverability personally because of those features.

Is this thing legitimate for affiliate marketing? Like, will my emails actually get delivered or just go straight to spam folders?

Yes, with the Agency license you can install it on more than one site. That's kinda the whole point of that license tier.

It's a one-time payment for the plugin itself. You might have to pay for your SMTP service separately if you're using a paid one, but not for MailEngine.
